Margaret Mary McFadyen
Chemistry- A level, GCSE, and I am comfortable with any of the exam boards.
I love Chemistry, and I love teaching and tutoring Chemistry. When I see a student move from tension because they are struggling with something to relaxed and smiling; when they only gained a few marks from something they thought they knew to gaining all the marks in a similar question next time round; when their confidence visibly improves because of the work we have been doing together, it makes my day and I swell with pride in their achievements.
A teacher friend of mine was once asked by students at a job interview:
“If you were a superhero, who would you be?”
If I were a superhero, I would be Buffy the Vampire slayer, because my objective is to identify the demons that are getting in the way of your success and to slay them.
- I am a strategist.
- I actively seek to find out what is blocking your learning.
- I develop strategies with you to help you to overcome those blocks.
- My question is “How do I help you do this for yourself?
- You learn how to learn Chemistry.
- You become empowered and independent.
My focus adapts to what is needed – learning to remember, understanding concepts, applying learning to the questions and developing writing and mathematical skills to fully and accurately express learning in the exam situation to get the marks!
- Watch here to see how we can best work together:
“My son (in final year studying for A’Levels) needed some extra support and help understanding some of the concepts in Chemistry, and then practicing the areas he is less strong in. We found Margaret-Mary’s details in our local shop and have not looked back! She fully engages him and has helped enormously by filling in the critical gaps. He clearly enjoys the 1hr. 30 minute sessions once a week, is more confident, and his Chemistry teachers have told us that they noticed a marked difference in class from the moment he started the extra classes. We, including my son, have no hesitation in recommending Margaret-Mary wholeheartedly.”
“Margaret Mary has been with Justin Craig Education for about 7 years. During this time she has taken a number of Chemistry courses for us during the school holidays and her student feedback has been very good. Students describe her as being friendly, informative and having good subject knowledge. I have no hesitation in recommending Margaret Mary as a tutor.”
“Thank you so much miss, you had been helpful.”
