Nancy Eccles
Maths up to GCSE level for students of any age, Main English & Welsh exam boards: Edexcel, AQA, OCR, WJEC.
I’m Nancy Eccles and teach GCSE maths online. I am passionate about teaching maths to students all over the UK in small groups of up to 6 students or one-2-one.
I’d love you to drop in on my website and find out how I can help you or even watch my video on how to answer a GCSE question.
I tutor in a very relaxed and friendly way as I want my students to enjoy their lessons and look forward to learning with me. Building a positive relationship is so important and is the first step to a successful teacher/student partnership. I tailor my lessons to the students I teach and go at the pace that feels right for the student(s). Unlike a classroom teacher I am not constrained by the curriculum and I have the flexibility to spend as much or as little time as necessary on any topic.
I tutor online with Zoom or Skype and I use a visualizer which enables me to share my desk. I use both a whiteboard to model maths and worksheets. I recap and revisit topics regularly to make sure knowledge and understanding is embedded and use revision ‘warm ups’ each lesson. I send resources by email in advance of each lesson, set weekly homework tasks, mark homework and revisit any problem areas as well as feedback to parents on progress. In the run up to the exam season I set a maths GCSE past paper for homework each week and this is where the magic happens; ultimately the weekly practice gives my students the experience and the confidence to go on and achieve their target GCSE grades.
Over the years I’ve found the following to be important in my tutoring:
- There is more than one way to explain pretty much everything in maths and I will work with the student to find the best way for them.
- Confidence is key and I work with all my students on self-belief, nurturing a positive ‘can-do’ attitude and making maths fun and approachable.
- All lessons are recorded and sent to each student after the lesson along with any notes or worksheets.
- I encourage independent learning.
- I make myself available during the week for any help needed with homework.
“Thank you for being a teacher who changes lives! Without maths, Amber would have struggled. We were so thrilled with Amber’s result and thank you for making such a difference to her – both in her maths and developing her confidence. Amber really needed the ‘right’ tutor to help her achieve success and you were that special person.”
“Nancy has made a great difference to my child’s maths learning, she has simultaneously built her confidence, introduced new strategies and helped embed core maths skills in a way my daughter thinks is fun and exciting. She tailors homework to challenge but not overwhelm, she has built a great rapport with my daughter and allowed her to enjoy maths and most importantly she looks forward to her lessons.”
“Nancy has inspired me to push myself and get the best grades I possibly can. As well as doing maths we have a lot of fun too. Before I came to Nancy I was working at a grade three on the foundation tier of the GCSE course and next year I will be sitting higher paper with an estimated grade of a 6 to 7. Nancy has pushed me and given me the confidence to break down a question and take it in smaller chunks. Nancy is an amazing maths tutor and I have come on leaps. Thank you Nancy for everything you have helped me with.”
