Sarah Phoenix
My expertise is in GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level and International Baccalaureate Diploma teaching.
Hello. My name is Sarah and I am an English Language and Literature tutor. I specialise in helping children improve in their reading and writing skills required at all levels in the upper primary and secondary school. I have a vast experience of working with students online in different countries across the world. I look forward to speaking with you about how I can help your child.
I tutor for the following areas:
- Cambridge IGCSE English Language and English Literature
- Edexcel IGCSE English Language and English Literature
- AQA GCSE English and English Literature
- A-Level English Literature
- International Baccalaureate: English Language and Literature A
- KS3 Class support
- KS2 SATs support
- Creative Writing
- Essay Writing
- 11+ English Tutoring
- 13+ English Tutoring
- Independent / Grammar School English test preparation
- Literature Reading Clubs
I specifically seek to instill into my students a lifelong passion for learning that helps to shape the people they will become. I am a strong advocate of reading and I hope to inspire this passion for reading and learning in all of my students. My teaching philosophy can best be described in the words of Dr. Seuss who once said: “The more that you read, the more that you’ll know, the more that you’ll learn the more places you’ll go.”
- For examination year tutees, I ensure my students are thoroughly prepared for all types of writing and reading comprehension as demanded by the exam.
- For 1:1 tuition, I tailor my classes to suit the student’s strengths and weaknesses preparing them for examinations or improving English skills. Initially, I carry out an assessment before developing a learning plan catered to the individual student’s needs.
- In group literature classes my aim is to make reading fun and enjoyable whilst building on the student’s comprehension and vocabulary.
- I follow a step by step structured programme to build up the skills needed for success in English Language and Literature.
“Sarah has been providing online tuition sessions to my secondary school aged children for over a year now. Sarah has adapted the sessions to suit their abilities, focussing on iGCSE level English sessions for my eldest and more general English sessions for my younger child who is about to take his Cambridge Year 9 Checkpoint exams. Both, are native English speakers, but have still found the sessions to be of great use to build their confidence and ability, whilst also having that one on one time to question anything that they did not grasp in class. I have every confidence that these sessions will ensure that my children are both well prepared to sit their exams, as well as gain strong English comprehension and writing skills to use in the future. I would have no hesitation in recommending Sarah to other parents seeking an online solution to their child’s tuition needs.”
“I think the classes were great, because I can express my feelings about Harry Potter, while also learning how to become a better writer. I learned how to use words instead of “said”, which would make your story overall more interesting. I too learned how to describe the surroundings so the readers can feel the characters sense of dread, or any other kind of feelings. I can describe a person using simile, metaphors, and other interesting adjectives. I can make a person’s entrance very dramatic by using onomatopoeia, powerful verbs and others. Making a plot for a story is now easy for me too because of my MOST AWSOME TEACHER!”
